For Elk Ridge - Ridgway State Park: Beautiful park..our second time here. First time stayed in dull hookup area. All booked up so we stayed in ElkRidge with electric only. Lovely, shaded sites with lots of space. Some of them have great views, but all are in the trees. Be aware that in addition to the site fee you must pay a daily Colorado park fee of $9/ day. Since we were going to another state park after this, we opted to just buy the annual pass. Nearby towns of Ridgway, Ouray are worth a look. Camped in 36 ft MH. We would gladly return.

For Elk Ridge - Ridgway State Park: **Do not detach your tow before going in the park! This park charges a rec fee at check in that is not included in your campground fee. If you take your tow off before heading in they charge you twice. It was $56 for three nights. Also, the fee expires at noon on your check out day, if you want to stay the whole day at the park then you have to buy another pass for 12-close. Quite hours are not enforced. Lots of partying till one in the morning. Now for the good, the lake is beautiful and there are a lot of low impact easy hikes. It’s close to Ouray, Ridgway and Telluride.

For Elk Ridge - Ridgway State Park: We stayed at the Elk Ridge loop campground here at Ridgeway State Park. We are used to back East (Vermont, New Hampshire) camping - wooded, secluded, awesome. Having said that, we are traveling cross country and have not had that romantic version of camping. Mostly because we did not plan at all. COVID happened and kids camp was canceled so off we went. I have discovered that the cooler the place (Glacier, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, etc) the harder it is to get nice camping. We have been staying in KOA’s because that is what has been available and honestly, they are not that awful. Not camping but a fine base camp. This place is such a refreshing change. Good size sites, nicely spaced, nice showers, laundry!?, a beach and a site with electric. Good at&t coverage, and a great, cool town 10 mins away. Would I plan a vacation here? No. I did extend our “passing through†time here from 2 days to 4? Yes, absolutely. Great place would certainly come here again.

For Elk Ridge - Ridgway State Park: Upon our arrival, I figured out the park was reservation only. I had not seen this info before my arrival so it made it a bit stressful. I had to pull over to the visitor's center and call the 800 # for reservations. The person on the other end could not tell me what the sites were like and I couldn't drive through to scope the campground out. So - I took the word of the reservations person and picked one that was supposedly 90' in depth. I paid over the phone but couldn't get the daily State Parks Pass online so I had to get it at the Visitor's Center or via a kiosk near the front entrance. Upon arrival at our site, it was too narrow and no where near 90' feet deep. I'm guessing it was only 40 at the most. I called the 800# back to see if there was something else available but was told there was not. So, I wedged my rig into the spot by going up at an angle and trimming some dead tree branches that were in the way for clearance! I was able to get fairly level by placing several blocks under my leveling jacks in front. Not ideal but it worked...
Once settled, the site was adequate but in the future I would pick another spot or move to the Dakota Terraces Section of the park!
